I’m not Patriotic

I am not proud to be an American.   "But, Corinne, you live in the greatest country on earth."   "The United States is the only true free country."   "Your brother is in the army, how can you say such a disrespectful thing?"   Let me back up.   If we quickly skim the history of the United States of America, we'll be staring at the history of a nation of violence. Originally, Protestants risked their lives and their children's lives to escape the Church of England and search for a better and more free way of living in the New World. The land was occupied by Native American Indians but largely uninhabited, and there was certainly enough room for both people groups to coexist peacefully. The migration of human beings from one location to another because of different push and pull factors (thanks, sophomore year AP Human Geography) has been happening since the beginning of time, so this was not a new concept. Fast forward some years, and you...

Self-Love vs. Unconditional Love

It's 1:30 in the morning and I just got finished crying, yet again, about how much of a failure I am as a human being.   Many people will understand this situation. If you've ever struggled with depression, anxiety, body-image issues, etc. then you are all too familiar with the late nights laying in bed, eyes wide open, as tears are slowly drying on your cheeks and you comprehend how you got to this level of self-hatred. It's difficult for me to describe exactly what I'm feeling at these moments and why all I can do is quietly cry as to not wake up everyone else.   I thought I was doing so much better. I thought I was happy again. I thought.   Tonight I had yet another discussion with my mom about being healthy and exactly what foods I should eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to achieve my goal of being a 17 year old health goddess with clear skin and a flat stomach. Exercise has always been somewhat important to me as it's been a way to keep my de...

Why I Am a Christian Feminist

What is Feminism?  The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "feminism" as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." Most people would inherently agree with that definition, and most Christians would also agree, stating how God created both man and woman in His image.  So, why is it that "feminism" has become such a dirty word in the Christian community? What is really behind the "f" word- feminism? And why are Christians discouraged from identifying with this movement?   The history of feminism is vast and would take many pages of text to thoroughly explain. This  website  explains the three waves of feminism quickly and accurately. The first wave of feminism was actually led by Christian women who demanded the right to vote, advocated for child labor laws, and protection of married women in abusive relationships!  Now, it's 2017, and many people are asking why we still need feminism. Women have rights, so ...

Hello, World!

Hello, world! This is me, life should be... *begins singing theme from the Saddle Club*  Already, it's obvious I'm a bit of a geek.  I'm an average high school student, dual enrolled at our community college so I'll have my Associate's Degree when I graduate high school. I'm a huge geek about Star Wars, Harry Potter, and different bands. I've always had dreams of becoming a journalist, and considering the amount of unwarranted opinions stuck in my head, I've decided to start a blog. Hopefully this one will be successful. I love Jesus, feminism, coffee/hot tea, dogs, books, and Netflix. All of these things will appear continuously in my posts.  So, there's me.  -c.f.b.
